This film first released in 2000 documents the last major HLG/F3K contest to feature the Javelin or over-hand throwing technique as the new generation of discus or spin-launch gliders were about to revolutionize this class of gliders. This special edition of this film has been remastered and re-edited with additional historical HLG footage and interviews added to document the the rapidly changing designs and launch techniques of the last 13 years. Discus-launch pioneers Dick Barker and Phil Pearson talk about the birth of the spin launch in rare interviews, and design master Mark Drela talks about the ideas behind the ground-breaking Super Gee design.

Also included are tutorials filmed in 2003 with Bruce Davidson and Maple Leaf builder Phil Pearson. I hadn't watched this film in about 10 years, (you will see my flying in the contest, got 4th place) and I have to say I was amazed and delighted to see how we used to fly HLG in the old days and all of the cool javelin-launch glider designs. This is still the only soaring film to capture the excitement and challenge of a HLG contest.
